Healing as a Gateway

SRI LANKA
Our partner in Sri Lanka repeatedly witnesses how prayer, healing, and deliverance open the way for people to receive the Gospel, and how God intervenes in their lives in powerful ways.

Many people in Sri Lanka who come to the Christian faith report having previously experienced healings or deliverance from spiritual burdens. Our partner, Pastor L., shares from his own experience: “Under the influence of evil forces, Hindus often manifest their distress when Christians pray for them. This opens many doors for the Gospel. People long for freedom and come to realize that God is Almighty.”

Our partner tells of a woman with cancer who attended a discipleship conference. She had lost her hair due to several rounds of chemotherapy. She had been invited by a friend who had formerly been a Hindu and had accepted Jesus into her life. During the conference, this friend asked our partner several times to pray for the sick woman. Pastor L., however, asked her to wait a little longer.

Later, he spoke in a sermon about healing through Jesus. Afterward, the participants formed small groups to pray for one another. Then, some were given the opportunity to share their experiences with the entire congregation. Then the woman with cancer stepped forward and said that her friend had prayed for her. While the prayer was taking place, she felt herself being completely healed. She no longer felt sick. Later, she had herself examined by a doctor—and the doctor declared her healed.
