Haiti

In the vacuum of a lack of state structures, marauding gangs are up to mischief, looting houses and making every trip outside a high-risk endeavour. Our local partner has lost everything, but is holding out on the ground and providing makeshift supplies to the two existing communities in Léogâne and Cavaillon.

In Haiti, one in four children of primary school age does not attend school, and barely half of the adults know their ABCs. Nowhere else in the Caribbean is the education situation as desolate as in Haiti. In addition to the already catastrophic school conditions, the current situation means that little can improve in the foreseeable future.

The country is also a witches' cauldron, heavily contaminated by sorcery and voodoo rituals.
