Israel
Synagogues, churches and mosques: The houses of worship of the three world religions share the alleys of the old cities; Jews, Christians and Muslims meet in a confined space. This harbors a high potential for conflict. Attacks on Christians by ultra-Orthodox Jews in particular have increased in recent years.
AVC has had a good relationship with Israel for decades - and a concern to contribute to reconciliation between peoples and to lead Jews into a personal relationship with their Messiah, Jesus Christ. A church in Galilee with the same vision has become a strong partner for us.
The land where the Bible originated is today a nation caught between religious fanaticism and atheism. Israel needs a return of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Yet, as in Jesus' day, many Jews turn their backs on or harass followers of Jesus' teachings. The slashing of car tires of those attending a Christian service is just one such harassment.
Children of Messianic Jews face discrimination and bullying in public schools. This prompted our partner church to establish a kindergarten and school in Tiberias. It is the only Christian institution of its kind in the city. AVC supports the kindergarten and school by arranging sponsorships.
Since 2009 AVC supports an evangelist in Israel. His heart beats especially for stranded people with a troubled past. Among other things, he visits prisoners, assists them with practical services and shares the Good News with them. After their release from prison, he helps them reintegrate into society.
Our employee also supports Jews who come to Israel from various countries to gain a foothold in the land of their forefathers. In doing so, it is important to him to familiarize them with their Messiah.
