Laos
The idyll is deceptive. Laos is poor and neglected, governed by a military junta since 1975. More bombs fell on Laos during the Vietnam War than on Vietnam itself. Uncleared minefields, in addition to poverty and a difficult political situation, are a literal high-explosive that still kills or cripples people.
