From zero to one hundred
The region is one of the most Muslim-dominated areas in the country. It is here that our partners have been supporting Christian communities for years. Between 2021 and 2024, AVC helped building 69 churches, with 31 more added in 2025. Two-thirds are located in the southeast, where there were previously hardly any Christian structures. Another 30 are planned for 2026.
The work is carried out by local Christians. Many move from cities to smaller villages, first attend seminars on church planting, and then explore possible locations. In five to seven villages, they start simultaneously with discussions, prayer meetings, and small events. After that, a church planter moves permanently to the village, rents a room, and establishes contacts.
Discussion groups give rise to house groups, and later to meetings in public spaces. If the need grows, a plot of land is sought. Many churches start with simple means: a room made of cement blocks and a corrugated iron roof, usually built by the congregation themselves, becomes the center of the young church.
This development shows the great willingness of local Christians to take responsibility and share hope although they are facing many challenges.
