Haiti - Community building

Es begann mit einer Katastrophe

IT BEGAN WITH A DISASTER

In 2010, a devastating earthquake shook the Caribbean island. Since then, AVC has been working with the Eglise Lumière church in Léogâne.

Léogâne is located a good thirty kilometers west of the capital Port-au-Prince and is a national center of the voodoo cult. Voodoo and other occult practices hold Haiti in a spiritual stranglehold. The people need freedom, they need Jesus Christ.

The external construction in the form of the church building was soon completed. Spiritual building remains an ongoing task. The work of the congregation is made more difficult by poverty, the departure of members and the insecurity in the country. Nevertheless, the congregation is not discouraged and continues to expand. A local Bible school trains leaders, preparing for further growth.

Again, it was a natural disaster that provided the initial spark: In 2016, Hurricane Matthew swept across the southwest of the country with death-dealing force. Together with our partner, we provided emergency aid. Along with the physical aid, the Good News also came to those suffering. For not only the destructive effect of the hurricane, but also that of voodoo is present everywhere in Haiti. A week-long crusade brought a breakthrough, so that now there is a new church in the village of Cavaillon, not far from Les Cayes.

We are committed to helping the people of Haiti become free from these destructive forces.
