Mali
The situation in the West African state of Mali remains volatile. The north of the country is at war and the south is struggling with the influx of refugees, rapid population growth, high unemployment and a lack of infrastructure. Only 50% of the population has access to a secure electricity supply - access to safe sanitation is only guaranteed for 20% of the population. Two thirds of the population are illiterate and do not attend school.
